Gogoanime: Stopped updating November 2024

The best Gogoanime alternative in 2026

Gogoanime, renamed Anitaku in 2024, stopped adding episodes in late November 2024 and its operators went quiet. The many Gogoanime domains around now are of unknown origin.

The short answer

Gogoanime stopped updating in November 2024, and nothing reputable says the original team runs any of today's Gogoanime domains. Rotten Brains is free, needs no account, and stays at one address.

What happened to Gogoanime?

Gogoanime was one of the longest-running free anime sites, and it moved domains many times over the years, from gogoanime.io and .tv to gogoanime3.co. Other anime sites scraped its streams, and CBR called it "a backbone of anime piracy". In July 2020 it was among the sites in a Disney application to block 118 pirate domains in India.

In 2024 it moved to the name Anitaku (anitaku.to) while keeping its look. Community sources say that also followed blocking. According to TorrentFreak, Gogoanime and Anitaku together had well over 100 million visits a month.

Around 24 November 2024 uploads stopped, and moderators on its Discord said they had lost contact with the operators. It happened days before Dramacool, which TorrentFreak links to Gogoanime, announced its own closure. By 2 December TorrentFreak described the site as "frozen in time", still reachable but not updating, and the sites that had scraped it went dry as well.

It never officially came back. Copies on many different extensions have appeared since. When we checked on 23 September 2026, anitaku.to did not resolve, anitaku.pe showed a domain-for-sale page and gogoanime3.co only served a parking-style redirect.

Shows open on a watch page with every season beside the player. The episode you are on is marked, and Up Next sits right above the list, so finishing an episode is one tap from the next.

Anime is here too, with sub and dub where both exist.

On Gogoanime a dead server meant going back, picking the next one and hoping. Here every title is checked against several sources before you press play, and the player starts on the one that answers first.

If a source stalls, the player tries the next one and picks up where you were. You can still pick one yourself from the settings menu, with a note on which ones carry extra audio languages or subtitles.

With a free account, every movie and episode remembers the second you stopped, on every device. Continue Watching sits at the top of the home page, next to what is new in the shows you follow.

You never need the account to watch. It only adds the memory.

Subtitles in dozens of languages

Subtitles come from more than one source, so most titles have several versions per language. If the first one is out of sync with the video, the next one usually is not.

Many get lined up with the dialogue automatically when you pick them, and there is a delay slider for the rest.
