GoMovies: Closed March 2018

The best GoMovies alternative in 2026

GoMovies was the name 123Movies took in 2017, and the operation shut down in March 2018. The GoMovies sites around now are clones.

The short answer

GoMovies closed with 123Movies in March 2018, and the GoMovies domains since then are clones that keep being blocked. Rotten Brains is free, needs no account, and finds a working source for you.

What happened to GoMovies?

GoMovies was not a separate site. In March 2017 the Vietnam-based 123Movies renamed itself GoMovies, first at gomovies.to and then gomovies.is. That same month the US ambassador to Vietnam urged Vietnamese officials to act against it.

In July 2017, after Warner Bros. takedown notices pushed its homepage out of Google results, GoMovies moved to gostream.is and swapped its homepage listings for a search box. In August 2017 an Australian court ordered ISPs to block it, and in December the team opened an anime sister site, AnimeHub.

By March 2018 it was running as 123movieshub, and the MPAA put its traffic at about 98 million visitors a month. On 19 March 2018 it posted a notice asking users to respect filmmakers by paying for films and shows, and closed. In October 2018 the MPAA said the 123movieshub, GoStream and GoMovies ring had closed after a criminal investigation was opened in Vietnam.

Searching "gomovies" today brings up clone domains. Between June and October 2024 the MPA asked for 13 GoMovies domains to be blocked, and Australian court orders in November 2025, issued to protect Wicked: For Good, named GoMovies again.

A look around Rotten Brains

01

The player finds a working source by itself

On GoMovies a dead server meant going back, picking the next one and hoping. Here every title is checked against several sources before you press play, and the player starts on the one that answers first.

If a source stalls, the player tries the next one and picks up where you were. You can still pick one yourself from the settings menu, with a note on which ones carry extra audio languages or subtitles.

Built for your phone too

The site works the same on a phone as on a laptop: the player pins to the top, the episode list scrolls underneath, and the controls are sized for thumbs.

Add it to your home screen and it opens full screen, like an app, with no store and no install.

Shows open on a watch page with every season beside the player. The episode you are on is marked, and Up Next sits right above the list, so finishing an episode is one tap from the next.

Anime is here too, with sub and dub where both exist.

Subtitles in dozens of languages

Subtitles come from more than one source, so most titles have several versions per language. If the first one is out of sync with the video, the next one usually is not.

Many get lined up with the dialogue automatically when you pick them, and there is a delay slider for the rest.

Questions

Is GoMovies the same as 123Movies?

Yes. GoMovies, GoStream and 123movieshub were all names the same Vietnam-based site used between 2017 and 2018, before it closed.

Why is GoMovies blocked in my country?

Rights holders keep asking for it. An Australian court ordered ISPs to block GoMovies in 2017 and named it again in November 2025, and the MPA asked for 13 GoMovies clone domains to be blocked in 2024.

Does Rotten Brains move to new domains like GoMovies did?

No. Rotten Brains stays at one address, rotten-brains.com, so there is no new domain to hunt for.
